CONTENTMENT IN OTAGO.
"*" - 'n i NO SIGNS OF DEPRESSION, "Business is solid." That sums tip the present position in Otago generally, according to a Christchurch man who has just visited Otago. In Dunedin itself, he found none of the doubt or partial depression that seems to be affecting trade in some other districts. Money is riot tight, many firms arc extending their premises, local"bodies are pushing ahead with enterprising schemes, and there is an atmosphere of confidence. Throughout Otago, wellplanned measures have been taken to relieve distress caused by unemployment, and the results have already proved satisfactory. " Farmers in Otago and Southland have had a splendid winter," said one farmer. " There is plenty of feed about, and cattle and sheep are in firstclass condition. Preparations for spring , work have not been so far advanced for years." \ n-
