BRITISH TRADE RETURNS.

LARGER JULY IMPORTS. DEALINGS WITH DOMINIONS. GROWTH IN THIRTEEN YEARS. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. (Received 8.5 p.m.) Reuter. LONDON. Aug. 11. British imports in July increased by £1.546,000, exports decreased by £7,563,000, and re-exports decreased by £1,926,000. There has been a substantial increase in the amount of British exports to the Dominions in the past 13 years, namely, from 37.2 per cent, in 1913, to 41.5 per cent, in 1926. This fact was mentioned by Mr. Alfred W. Flux, assistant-secre-tary to the Statistical Department of the Board of Trade at the concluding sittings of the British Association. Mr. Flux said the apparent conclusion to be drawn was that a restoration of world trade t-o its former dimensions and capacity for extension could do more to restore the British export trade and the dependent industries, than a struggle to secure for Britain trade which had been carried on by some other nation, notwithstanding the importance of maintaining Britain's competitive capacity. The British Association decided to hold its 1929 meeting in South Africa. ■■■■ ■ •%
