ART UNION FRIZES.

THE AKARANA YACHT CLUB. AMOUNT OF £6OO REALISED, Tense excitement, prevailed in the Chamber of Commerce last evcining when ihe winning numbers in the Akarana Yacht Club's Art Union were drawn. This art union was one of £6OO, divided into 28 prizes. The winner of 'the first prize, £250, wan Mr. W. P. Hooper, Box 1146, Auckland j whose ticket number was A 28456. Mrs. A. Williams, Oakleigh House, Eotorua, A 19840, won the tiecond prize of £IOO, and Mr. R. Jackson, Auckland, A 24948, the third prizo of £25. Twenty-five others gaineci prizes of £5 each. There was a large attendance at tho drawing, which was conducted in a novel way. Dices, bearing numbers were taken from five different bags, each containing ten numbers. As each number wasi com* pleted a dice was drawn from another bag, which indicated whether it vras to be the first, second, or £!Bth prize. The winning ticket was sold by the commodore of the club, Mr. E. D, Webster, The art union was organised for the purpose of raising money for the building of a clubhouse on a site on the eastern reclamation granted by the Auckland Harbour Boa.rd. Mr. W. A, Wilkinson announced that the Bum of £6OO was in hand aftw paying the prize money, This would h<ilp considerably to build a new clubhousfS. Tho Akarana Yacht Club was the only one in Auckland without a clubi house. He thanked all those who had helped to make the art union a success.
