POWER BOARD'S CONTRACT.
Sir,' —Your correspondents, "New Zealander" and "0.0. T.," approve the acceptance of a tender by the Power Board, -—some £4OOO more than they need have paid. Let me ask them this question: Supposing they required a motor-truck and had the choice of two, similar in quality and suitability, one British at £SOO, and the other American at £3OO, which would they buy ? The action of the Power Board will reduce employment, actual or potential, in this D&nnion, because it will take out of circulation £4OOO and make the financial stringency more stringent by that amount. The Power Board's action deserves the strongest condemnation of the ratepayers, who should not let the matter rest, or we will have the same methods pursued in other quarters. Where would it end ? Had the amount involved been £40,000, what then ? Would your correspondents still approve ? . Remukra.
