CONDUCTOR AT MAJESTIC.

Mr. F. Gr. Mumford, musical director and composer, of Sydney, has been engaged by the management of the Majestic Theatre to conduct the orchestra in place of Mr. A. Frost, who recently left Auckland in charge of a touring theatrical orchestra. Mr. Mumford is not a stranger to' New Zealand, having been sent to Christchurch by West's Pictures in 1910. At time he composed "The Window of the World," a work for choir, solo, orchestra and monologue, and later wrote "Solenelle," a dirge on the death of King Edward VII. He is the composer of "Maoriland," a New Zealand national song, and "Coronation," the latter celebrating the coronation of King George V. A violinist of distinction, Mi\ Mumford hag played in many distinguished orchestras in England and Australia, has conducted orchestras for J. C. Williamson companies, and in Sydney conducted the orchestra o£ 24 performers at the Tivoli Theatre—the largest band ever used in an Australian picture theatre. He will take over the direction of the Majestic orchestra to-day.
