REMUERA PUBLIC SCHOOL.

■ ■ 1 1 " ■ ' ■ ■ ■ IMPROVEMENTS TO GROUNDS. The progress of the ground improvements at the Remuera public school was reviewed at a.meeting of the School Committee this week. It was reported that at a working-bee the back part of the rockery had, been built up and planted. A number of 12ft. iron posts were put down in concrete preparatory to stretching wire netting thereon, this work being intended to confine the ball games, within the school grounds, A line of hedging was planted on the western side and when well grown would be a necessary protection. There was now asphalt space for two tennis courts and two basketball courts. The goal-posts for the latter courts are of iron, and are removable, there being oermaneiit concrete holes for the posts to fit into. There is still a large amount of work the committee intends carrying out. It is desirous of planting a breakwind, which is to take the form of trees, on the south side of the outer paddock. Permission to do so is being sought from the City Council. so as not to interfere with the plans for the future layout of the reserve. Further outside seating accommodation has always been needed and this will be supplied in of three or four weeks. It has also been decided to repaint all the old scats. To carry this programme out it has been decided to hold another working-bee in about three weeks. The committee has not lost sight of the necessity for shelter sheds and these will bo put in hand as early as possible. It is also intended to lay down in the outerfield a cricket pitch for the coming season. It was decided to hold a school concert in the hall of the Remuera Public Library, at a date to be fixed shortly after the school holidays, for the purpose of raising further funds to assist in the development of the grounds.
