UNIVERSITY STUDENTS.

THE ASSOCIATION'S YEAR. REVIEW OF THE FINANCES. The annual meeting of the Auckland University College Students' Association was held last evening, the president, Mr. S. F,. Meiklejohn, presiding over a good attendance. , The report stated the membership for the year was.io2s, an .increase of 80. The association started the year'with a balanco of £553, but expenditure in connection with the new clubhouse and in other directions- -had greatly increased. The in-, coming executive was recommended to postpone any extra contribution* to, the students' building fund until;'another year, had enabled it to estimate the cost of the new conditions. The results of the consolidated fee amendment had completely justified the, new; course, for' without the increased revenue the executive could not have carried bh The carfiival'play was a success in every respect except financially.. Difficulty was found in obtaining a suitable season at; His Majesty's Theatre, and because of this "Size Three" was-first produced in Hamilton and later for two seasons in Auckland. The three seasons resulted in a total loss of £125 12s: The college' magazine, the Kiwi., was a distinct success, two editions being published. For 'the first time since the war a profit was made on the publication. The clubhouse had proved a great success, and it was hoped that members would make even greater use of it, regarding it in the nature of a home rather than a waiting room. The most noteworthy new departure of the year was the running of a fair, which' proved a great sue-' cess and' resulted in the collection of almost £2OO for furnishing the clubhouse. The executive recommended for the consideration of the incoming executiveseveral points of policy, including the adoption of a portfolio system among members of the executive and the cultivation of the growing faculty spirit. The treasurer,., Mr D. H. Steen, moved that the consolidated fee should be increased from 15s to £1 Is, and stated the extra revenue" would be required for the, maintenance of the students' block for which rto provision had been made during the past year aud for which at least £2OO or £250 would be required annually. In addition only, about half of the £3OOO promised to the College Council lor the building fund had vet been paid. After considerable discussion the motion was carried. A proposal to amend the constitution to provide for the appointment of a secretarytreasurer at'an honorarium of hot more than £52 10s a year and of a student assistant: secretary-treasurer, was defeated. An amendment to the constitution providing for the election of officers of the association seven days prior to the election of members of the executive was carried. ~ - , - , The following officers were elected: — President-, Mr. D. H. Steen; vice-presi-dents, Miss M. K. Dunning and Mr. E. F. Thompson; secretary, Mr. T. C. Hay; treasurer, Mr. A. P. Postlewaite; tournament delegates, Messrs. N. A. Leonard and A. "J.
