INJURED BY POLICEMAN.
COMPENSATION FOR CIVILIAN EARLY MORNING INCIDENT. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON. Tuesday. It is stated that pecuniary compensation has been paid to the civilian who wa3 recently clubbed by a policeman in the early hours of the morning at Stewart Dawson's corner. The settlement has been made without prejudice to any Police Department inquiry which may be held. The injured civilian' was incapacitated from work for some days as the result of a cut he received on the head, which had three stitches put in it. The constable has also indemnified the civilian against any claim for medical expenses in connection with the happening.
