STRIKE IN NEW YORK.
SUBWAY WORKERS' WAGES. IMPOUNDING BY COMPANY. NEW YORK. July 17. The New York World, in an editorial, denounces the attack made by the Subway Company on the property of the strikers. The newspaper describes it as Prussianism to impound the petty and unpaid earnings of the strikejs. " It was a shabby act," adds the paper, " and it is unpleasant to hear the subway officials talk of ruining the workers. " The company's legal action is not iikely to succeed. The company admits that the men ought to have a five per cent, increase, and it should fijid some way to make that financially possible." The Tammany leaders have firmly refused to permit the company to increase its fares.
