THE ROYAL VISIT.
Expectation that the visit of the Duke and Duchess of York to Australia, on the occasion'of the open ing of the Commonwealth Parliament's first session at Canberra, would be extended to include New Zealand in the tour is confirmed by official announcement to that effect. The announcement will give universal satisfaction here. There is evidence in the communication from the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs that the acceptance of the Dominion's invitation has given pleasure to Their Majesties King George and Queen Mary, who cherish "the happiest memories" of their own visit as the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York twenty-five years ago. In the intervening visit of the Prince of Wales they tcfok obvious delight. But Britain's interest in this forthcoming Royal visit to New Zealand will not be confined to their household. The acceptance of Australia's invitation was hailed by the British press very cordially as a national event of high importance and significance, and there is no doubt that this further announcement will be similarly greeted. The British people, though scattered across the Seven Seas, are at heart one, and these journeyings afar under the flag by members of the Royal House invest with visible reality this national unity in a way that arouses enthusiasm in the Homeland. Here, ia a country quite as characteristically British as any other oversea dependency, where national loyalty has taken deep root, it goes without saying that a "royal welcome" awaits the Duke and Duchess. His personal qualities have earned a very warm regard throughout Britain, and her natural winsomeness has made her there much beloved. Their coming among us will make next' year a very memorable one.
