EGGS AND UNEMPLOYMENT.
Sir, —Mr. E. C. Frost in Wednesday's Herald compares the price of eggs "to wages. His argument that wages should be lowered to increase the number of people employed looks all right on the surface, but if we go a little deeper where is the labourer to get the mo."-y to pay 2s 6d per dozen for eggs ? This >'> plies to all commodities and rea' nnably 'ligh wages means added prosperity for J1 classes. When eggs are scare the p :• e goes up thus compensating tht farmer for the reduction in number and wLcn they are plentiful the price falls the.-rl>y keeping an econoqiic balance. The labourer has his family to feed and clothe no mutter what price necessary commodities go u< so there is no analogy between the two points of Mr. Frost's argument. Wages.
