WORK OF PARLIAMENT.
ENTERING SEVENTH WEEK. GOOD PROGRESS TO DATE. ———B> CONTENTIOUS BILLS TO COME. [by telegraph.—special reporter.] WELLINGTON. Monday. Parliament is now entering the seventh week of this session and all things considered it has mado good progress. Nearly thirty Government bills have appeared together with local and private members' bills to about half that number. The Budget debate has been disposed of and the House of Representatives has already gone some distance into the estimates.
Tt is now expected that the Dairy Produce Export Control Amendment Bill will be heard of officially this week. When it appears the House will be provided with its first really contentious business. Already the opponents of absolute' control have shown themselves active in the Chamber and whatever the Bill contains it will give an excuse for much debate on the whole question.
A certain item this week is the second Imprest Supply Bill which as' usual will be put through all its stages forthwith.
If the Prime Minister is to sail for Europe by the Niagara from Auckland on August 31, Parliament has five clear weeks in /which to transact the remainder of its business; that is assuming that •Mr. Coates is unwilling to leave it in session, Provided not too much' delay occurs over the Dairy Control and Licensing Amendment bills' there should' be no trouble in finishing within the period. There is a possibility that' the Imperial Conference may be put back a fortnight but it is thought that even in this event Mr. Coates may prefer to leave on the original date.
