A MONS MEMORIAL.
MONUMENT TO MISSING. To the memory of 4300 British soldiers who lost their lives in the retreat from Mons and the battles of Le Cateau, the Marne, and the Aisne in 1914, and whose bodies were never recovered for burial, a 'monument is to be erected on the bank of the River Marne at La Ferte sousJouarre. The names of the men are kr.own and will (be inscribed on memorial, which has been designed by Major G. Hartley Goldsmith. • The Memorial to the Missing, as it will be called, will be erected on the spot where a floating bridge was built under fire by the Royal Engineers of the 4th Division for the passage of part of the British Expeditionary Force across the Marne on September 9, 1914. The design is an oblong, with a central cenotaph, and 16 panels for the names, the whole memorial being 100 ft. long and 30ft high.
