DANGERS OF STREET.

CARELESS PEDESTRIANS.

COMMENTS BY CORONER. RECENT WELLINGTON FATALITY [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON. Monday.

" This is the third case which I have heard within a comparatively short time where a motor accident has been due to Jack of care on the part of the pedestrian," remarked Mr. E. I'age, coroner, to-day ''when giving his finding at an inquest concerning the death of John McKinnon, aged 50 years, a wharf labourer, who was knocked down in Featherston Street on July 17 by a rnotor-lorry driven by Charles Leslie Weston,

" In this case the driver was crossing an intersection at a reasonable speed and was actually sounding his horn," continued the coroner. Deceased wished to cross the street and walking directly into the side of the lorry, he was knocked down. Attention should be drawn to the lack of care exercised by pedestrians in the streets of the city. It results in careful drivers being, called upon to stand what is really a trial for negligence. Instruction to school children on the matter would be of advantage." The finding was that deceased was killed accidentally by being knocked down by the lorry.
