AMBASSADORS LICENSE.
RESOLUTIONS OF PROTEST.
NO REPLY BY COMMITTEE,
The action or the Auckland licensing Committee in granting a license to the Ambassadors Hotel has been adversely criticised by the Council of Christian Congregations, which has forwarded several protests to the committee. In addition to correspondence with Mr, A. Thompson, who has since resigned from the committee, resolutions of protest have been sent to the other members, Messrs. G. H. Lethaby, J. Trevithick, E. Leydon and J. Grace.
On June 10 a copy of the original resolution protesting against the granting of the license was forwarded to each of the four members. No reply was received, and the council again approached the members for an explanation of their action. The letters were also unacknowledged, and the following letter was circulated on July 20:—
" Two letters from the council, a thoroughly representative body of Auckland citizens, have been posted to you, and no reply having yet Been received, we are instructed to again ask the favour of an explanation as to the reason for granting a license to the Ambassadors Hotel after the committee's former refusal and its re-election to office. Failing an explanation within a week we intend to hand over our correspondence with you to the press." No reply has. yofc been .-received;
