NOTES FROM ELLERSLIE.

GOSSIP OF THE TRACKS. -V

BY ARCHER.

Since his unsuccessful trip to Trenihain Llewellyn has only A>een doing the ligntest of tasks. It is intended to raco him on the flat at the Pakuranga Hunt meet ins.

It is very unlikely that Tall Timber will go to Riccarton. The chestnut went a fiir six iurionga on Saturday, but scarcely went weil enough to encourage his connections to take him south. As be has not done much really fast work lately, it is probable that Tail Timber will improve with each ga.lop. and he should be in good trim for eariy soring meetings.

' J. T. Jamieson left for Riccarton .yesterday evening with Le Choucas and Nippy. Both horses are in great heart and it should not be for lack of condition if they fuil to race well.

The hunters Tuile and Keep Smiling are now working at Ellerslie under the direction of E. Rae in view of the Pakuranga Hunt meeting.

Schorr failed at Trentham. but he ran two fair races. He is carrying an improved appearance and it should not be Jong before he shows to more advantage.

The hunter Maira jumps as well as ever and gave a fine display over several of the big fences on Saturday. His fencing ability will always be helnful to him. but on past form he is of small account, and the class will need to be weak for him to reach the winning list.

A. Robertson is commencing to move Stormv along again. Stormy is bright and muscular and should be in capital order for early spring racing.

For a first time over steeplechase fences Sea Comet shaped really well when sent over the sodwnll. double, and stonewall at Ellerslie on Saturday. This disappointgeldinc is now a qualified hunter and mav be earn 1 to winning a minor steeplechase

M. Rvan has Dress Circle well forward, and tin? Comedy King gelding hit out nicely when he beat Tall Timber and Gold Fern over six furlongs on Saturday. So far Dress Circle has only one small victory to his credit, but lie should be a useful hack m the new season.

War Officer has wintered well and has thickened. This gelding has run several decent races and is useful. Some time back he was troubled with lameness, but he is now moving freely and should be in good condition for spring racing.

Blue Sky bears an improved abearance and ia also workin" better than ho was :v few months ago. He won a minor event on the country circuit enrlv in the year and should ho capable of winnins asrain in the hack class if he maintains his present rate of progress..

The hunter Billy McCracken has jumped well in a counle of recent schooling eiTorts. Be seems to be doing better now and may be useful in his class when more seasoned. Na"">ock took no harm from his trip to Trentbam and is working alone nicely. He gpnrted three furlongs in good style on Saturday. _So far he has not shown any form in r>_ublic. but he has not had r..any opportunities yet.

Sir Roseberry has not returned to the track vet. but ho has_ been doing steady •work on the hil's. The crack iumper is his and bright and seems to be keeping Quite sound.

That useful little mare Wendav is moving Rlons; freelv and will be ready for the early spring meetings. She should be worth watching in the hack class when the lighter scale ow weights comes into operation again.

W. 7. Wilson has leased Edifice to Mr. TT. jv. Sv.-n ffipld. Edifce i<» a brown gelding bv Thurnham from Taknhau. and was in work at Eller«lie a couple of. seasons ago. He will be raced in Hunters' events.

F. Gilchrist nag several Australian-br?d vnungsterß working steadily at El'erslie. They comprise a welding by Sir Dighton from Quaver, a fill 7 by Kenilworth from werota. and a gelfln? by Grey Monk irom Adma.
