KNOCKED DOWN BY MOTOR.
RECENT TAIHAPE FATALITY. THE DRIVER EXONERATED. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.]' TAIHAPE, Saturday. The adjourned inquest concerning the death of Mr, John Bowler, aged 77 years, who was knocked down in Main Street on Wednesday evening and died the follow, ing day, was held to-day. * The driver of the car stated that, as rain was falling in the vicinity, he was travelling at only 10 miles an hour. He did not see deceased until he bumped mto him. The driver's statement was borne out b.y other eye-witnesses of the accident. The coroner returned a verdict, in accordance with the medical evidence, that df.ath was due to a fracture of the skull and consequent laceration of the brain.* The coroner expressed sympathy with the driver of the car, against whom he said there was not the slightest evidence of neglect, nor to whom there attached any blame.
