DAMAGE DONE BY FIRE.

ST. MARK'S CHURCH HALL. STAGE FITTINGS DESTROYED. A considerable amount of damage was done to St. Mark's Church Hall, Remuera Road, by an outbreak of fire shortly before mid-day on Saturday. The fire originated at the back of the hall where most of the damage was done. The Remuera and Parnell fire brigades answered the call and on arrival found the flames had a good hold. It was some time before they had the fire under control. The stage, ceiling, stage fittings and scenery were all extensively damaged. Included in the scenery was some which was to have been used for the staging of two plays this evening. The producers had intended to move some furniture for the plays into the hall on Saturday afternoon, so they were s&ved the risk of losing this by about two hours. The hall is insured for £4OOO and the contents for £225, both policies being held by the New Zealand Insurance Company.

CANDLE IGNITES BED CLOTHES. LITTLE DAMAGE DONE. While answering a false alarm at about '7.55 p.m. yesterday the Mount Albert brigade received a genuine alarm at a house owned by Mr. Trow at the top of Rob Roy Street, on the Mount, AlbertOnehunga Road. The outbreak originated in a bedroom where a candle had set light to some bed clothes. The brigade succeeded in confining the flames to the bedroom where damage was done to the extent of £2O.

DESTRUCTION OP FARMHOUSE. , OUTBREAK NEAR MATAMATA. [BY TELEGRAPH?—OWN COEEESPQNDENT. ] MATAMATA, Saturday. A farmhouse and contents, belonging to Mr. R. N. Eccles, of the Okauia Hot Springs, near Matamata, were destroyed by Sre this morning. The house was insured in the State office for £475 and the furniture for £l5O.
