TE KUITI AFFAIRS.
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] TP KUITI, Saturday. The report presented at the annual meeting of the Te Kuiti Chamber of Commerce mentioned that the chamber had found places on farms in the district for a number of English public school boys who had immigrated under the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce scheme. The necessity for more experimental plots to enable the farmer to gather knowledge of the proper manuring and cultivation of the various soils of the district had been brought before the notice of the Government and several plots had since been established. An officer of the Agricultural Department had been permanently appointed to the district. The chamber had initiated the formation of the Mangapu Drainage Board and if the board's scheme was successful approximately 8000 acres pf first-class fattening and dairy land on the border of Te Kuiti would be brought under cultivation. The necessity for the formation of the main highway from Te Kuiti to the National Park, via Taumarunui, had been brought before the authorities, and as a result £I6O,(XX) had been allocated to this road for the next five years. This year's amount was roughly £30,000. The election of officers resulted; —President, Mr. S. R. Craig; vice-presidents, Messrs. W. J, Broadfoot, P. Caley and W. S. Cato; executive, Messrs. Holas. Bryden, Mackersey, Sutherland, Tinkler; auditor, Mr. W. McAra; treasurer, Mr. R. M. Ormsby.
