DAMAGE BY FLOODS.
WEST AUSTRALIAN AREAS. A FATALITY REPORTED. HOUSES SUFFER IN PERTH. By Telezraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received 10.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z. PERTH. July 21. Rain continues to fall and there are prospects of a heavy gale. Reports from the -whole country-side indicate the phenomenal nature of the floods and the extensive damage done. The first fatality so far reported is the death of Mrs. Barringlon, of Cottesloe. She stepped on a live wire, which had been blown down Ly a gale, and was electrocuted. Thirty washouts have been found on four railways in the flooded districts. The Swan River at Perth has become a vast expanse of wafer. The damage done to houses in the metropolitan area is extensive. This is due mainly to the terrific wind, which reached a velocity of 76 miles an hour. The train services, including those on trans-continental lines, have been cancolled indefinitely. The English mails which were brought ashore from tho steamer Comorin on Monday will be considerably delayed.
