AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE. BRIGHTER TONE PREVAILS. Transactions were recorded in practically all sections on the Auckland sharemarket yesterday. The only section that was neglected to any extent was Government securities in which the inquiry was much lighter than has been the rule during the past few weeks. In banks several sales were made. Nationals of New Zealand changed hands at £6 16s as on the previous day and there was late sale at £6 16s 6d. New Zealands were done at the current price of 62s 3d. and there was early sale in Unions of Australia at £ls 9s. In insurance Nationals sold at 82s 6d. New Zealands were quoted at 43s 6d without attracting offers. Quotation of South British at 61s at mid-day attracted an offer of 60s which was eased to 59s at the third call without business being done. In coal Hetherington Collieries, contributing, had sale at 5s lOd. In gas Aucklands ordinary sold at 25s lOd, more being available at that price, buyers offering 23s 6d, a decline of 2d on Tuesday's closing offers. There was an accommodation movement in the contributing issue, sellers easing from 12s 4d to 12s sd, and buyers improving from lis lOd to 12s. In shipping sale was made in Union Steams, preferred, at 20s 4d. Huddart-Parkers were available at the third call at 44s 9d, buyers being firmer at 44s 6d. Closing quotations on Tuesday were 45s and 44s 3d. The timber section attracted attention for the first time for some days, sale being made in Nationals at I7s and in Parker-Lamb at 25s 6d. In miscellaneous British Tobaccos sold at the current price of 52s 6d. Hill and Plummets changed hands at 22s 6d, and Sanford Limited at 235. Bycrofts had late sale at 50s. In mining Alburnia showed an upward tendency The market opened at 4s 2d and 4s Id and sales were made during the day at from 3s lid to 4s 7d. The market closed at 4s 5d and 4s 3d, compared with 3s 8d and 3s 6d on Tuesday. Moanataiaris, contributing, were done at 2s Id and Kawaraus at 7s and 7s id. Ohinemuris changed hands at 6s, the current price. Waihis were done at 19s and Grand Junctions at Is sd.
