THE TOWN HALL SCAFFOLDING.
Sir, —Kindly permit me to draw attention to the structure which has been erected around the Town Hall for the purpose of renovating same. It must be apparent to any observer that it is extravagently out of all proportions to the requirements of the Government Scaffolding Act, in fact it is a positive waste of the ratepayers' money. The uprights are double the ordinary size, and with the stringers, bearers, etc., spaced so close together, they look like a forest of timber, as compared with the scaffolding that is now attached to the new bank building, corner of Queen Street and Karangahape Road. Both buildings are about the same height, and the Scaffolding Act equally applies to each. The bank scaffolding had to carry men and heavy materials, while the Town Hall one lias only to bear a couple of men with a scraper and a tin of paint, not forgetting the brush. What astonishes me is that our worthy Mayor, being a builder of no mean order, should countenance such a blunder. Barney Maglone.
