WELFARE OF ANIMALS.
NEW SOCIETY'S WORK.
A meeting of the executive committee of the Animal Welfare League was held last evening, Mr. J. J. Mead presiding. The Rev. Jasper Calder and Mr. Richard Arthur were appointed trustees to deal with the finances of the new S.P.C.A. It was decided to proceed «at once with the registration of the society, which will take over the work hitherto performed in conjunction with that of the Society l'or the Protection of Women and Children. Arrangements for Animal Welfare Week July 25 to 31, were discussed. The new society will require funds to carry on its work, and advantage will be taken of Welfare Week to augment its finances. The City Council has agreed to give a band concert in Albert Park on Sunday afternoon in aid of the funds of the society, and ministers have been requested to preach special sermons on that day. A benefit performance, with special programme, will be given at the Rialto Picture Theatre, Newmarket, on July 26. A street collection will be taken up in that district on Friday, July 30, which will be observed as Humane Day in schools.
