GAMES FOR UNEMPLOYED.
AN AUCKLAND SUGGESTION. NOT IN FAVOUR IN NAPIER. A novel proposal to assist the unemployed came before the Napier Borough Council the other evening, when {he Auckland branch of tho New Zealand National Unemployed Organisation applied for permission to play legal games, such as hoop-la, peg-la, etc., for the benefit of the unemployed of the Auckland ana Napiei districts. It was stated that the games had all been played for the same puipose in Auckland. Mr. J. C. Bryant: It's a money-making game, I should think. The Mayor, Mr. J. B. Andrew: It's for the unemployed. Mr. C. H. Wilkie: In tho Auckland and Nosier districts, it says. Mr. Bryant: What proportion is to go to each ? Mr. H. J. Harman: Is this for the promotion of idleness ? It reads like it. Mr. Bryant: It's not going to be another form of the dole, is it. Mr. Mayor ? The council decided to deal with the application in committee, and it was subsequently announced that the request had not been agreed to.
