CURRENT OPERATIONS.
Fruit trees may bs planted when the weather and soil conditions permit. In fact it is advisable to proceed with this as speedily as possible. To ascertain whether the soil is in a dry enough condition for planting I have found it an ideal plan to dig a hole about three feet deep on the intended site. The hole is left for several hours, and if water collects in the bottom, the soil is too wet for planting. If no water drains into it from the surrounding soil it may be taken for granted that the soil is dry enough to proceed with the planting.
