ENGLISH MUSICIANS.
COMPOSER AND PIANIST. . For the purpose of conducting examinations under the auspices of the Associated Board of the Royal Academy, London, Mr. - Maurice Besly, composer, and Mr. Norman Wilks, pianist, are passing through Auckland by the Aorangi cn their way to Sydney. Both have gained high honours in the world of music. Mr. Wilks is in the fijst flight of British pianists and is a great favourite on the Continent. Mr. Besly has composed many notable works, including the "Second Minuel," which is included in the repertoire of Galli-Curci. He has also had the distinction of conducting- the Royal Albert Hall Orchestra. Speaking of music in England, Mr. Besly said there had been a marked revival in good music since the Great War. He was of opinion that Vaughan Williams and Hoist were better musicians than could be found anywhere on the Continent. Mr. Wilks will give concerts in Australia. and he hopes to play in Auckland and elsewhere in New Zealand on his way back to England.
