GENTLEMEN AND PLAYERS. THE COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS. (Received fi.S p.m.) Router.-Sun. LONDON. July 16. In tho cricket match Gentlemen v. Players the former in their first innings scored 542 (a record for the Gentlemen at Lord's). Chapman made 108, Jardine 85, Fender 45, Haig 46. Geary took three wickets for 36. Tho Players in their second innings scored 97 for ono wicket (Sutcliffe not out 50). Hie match was drawn. In the county championships Somerset, in their first innings against Essex made 374 (Ingle riot out 119) and in their second 224 for eight wickets (Johnson 61). Essex in their first innings scored 530 (Cutmore 119, O'Connor 51, Russell not out 180, Hipkin 85). The match was drawn. Hampshire in their first innings against Notts compiled 245 and in their second 311 (Brown 51, Mead 132). Staples in tho first innings tonic four wickets for 45 and in tho second four for 45. Notts in their first innings scored 281 (Whysall 78) and in their second 279 for seven wickets. Notts won by thrwe wickets. Batting for Gloucester against Kent Smith made 123. Parker took seven wickets for 91. For Kent Hardings inado 116. Freeman took six wickets for 92. Kent won. Bowling for Worcester against Sussex Tarbox took five wickets for 160. For Sussex A. E. Gilligan made 106. ' Wcnsley took seven for 69. Sussex won. Batting for Glamorgan against Warwick Walters made 116. Ryan took five for 24. For Warwick Calthorp-, 1 , took six for 72. Glamorgan won. Yorkshire now lias a percentage of 80, Middlesex 73, Glamorgan 70, Lancashire 67, Kent 65. Surrey is eighth with 46. Northants is last with 16.
