SPEEDWAY FATALITY.
CYCLIST STRIKES A FENCE. WELL-KNOWN RACER'S DEATH. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 6.55 p.m.) SYDNEY. July 38. A fatal accident occurred yesterday at the Marouba speedway. The victim was Sidney Dutton, one of the best-known of Australian motor-cyclists. Dutton was riding at a speed of 80 miles 8n hour in the Marouba Gold Helmet event when he crashed into a fence in attempting to pass two other competitors. The accident was caused by the handlebar of his machine touching the fence. The cycle turned a somersault and hit the corner post with terrific force. Dutton fractured his skull. He died in hospital two hours later. His wife had witnessed the accident.
