AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE. BANK SHARES IN DEMAND. Good business, particularly in banks, marked the single call on the Auckland sharemarket on Saturday morning. There was a continued lack of interest in Government securities, in which there was not a single transaction last week, an anusual state of affairs. In debentures Christchupch City, the 5$ per cents, maturing in 1955, sold at £99 10s. There was inquiry for various other classes, but no business resulted. In banks Australasias were done at £l4 Bs, against £l4 10s a fortnight ago. Nationals made £6 16s, equal to Friday s selling quotation, and the market closed at £6 15s 6d and £6 16s 6d. New South Wales changed hands at £45, a decline of 7s 6d on the last previous sale a month ago. There were late offers at £44 15s, holders asking £45 10s.' New Zealand buyers were unchanged at 625, but sellers were slightly easier at 62s 3d. In insurance New Zealands were wanted at 435, last week's sale price, sellers quoting 43s 3d. Offers for South British remained at 60s 9d, holders easing slightly to 61s 6d. In gas Aucklands had sale at 23s lOd, a slight improvement probably due to the proximity of the interim dividend. Late offers were 23s 9d, holders asking 245. In shipping Northern Steamships sold at 15s 3d, the current price, at which more were available, buyers offering 15s. In miscellaneous Grey and Menzies changed hands at 12s 6d, the price obtaining a month ago. Closing quotations were 12s and 12s 9d. Henry Jones Co-op. again sold at 48s 6d, and the market closed at 48s and 495. Wilsons Cement were unchanged at 35s and 35s 3d. In mining Alburnias were done at 4s 2d, an advance of one penny. More were wanted at 4s Id, sellers holding for 4s 3d. Kawaraus again had sale at 7s 2d, at which figure more were wanted, holders 7s 3d. Waihis were unchanged at 18s 9d and 19s 6d. Demand for Grand Junctions was slightly firmer at Is 2d, sellers unchanged at Is sd.
