MOUNT ALBERT VALUATIONS.
Sir, —This is a matter that should concern every ratepayer of the above borough. Everyone should take strong exception to the increases of from 25 per cent, to 40 per cent, upon the valuations made some time ago. When I applied for a readjustment, I received the magnificent sum of £2O reduction on the value of my property, which I consider not enough in face of the Valuation De partment's action in reducing farm valu ations considerably throughout the Dominion, for no one can deny that town and suburban properties have also shown a decline in values for the last five years. We carried the big loan of £750,000 for improvements in the borough, and this a day before the valuation papers wert> sent out. If the rates are going up to such values, then the time is ripe for the ratepayers to sign a petition and present same to the Mount Albert Borough Coun cil for a poll to be taken upon thi> amalgamation with the city, as no longer can we use the old slogan, "Our Rates Lower than Elsewhere." S. Morrison 32, Second Avenue, Kingsland.
