Meyer, Cammick, Lucas and Hook handled in succession, the latter sprinting along the side-line and cutting in to score well out. Butler's kick was a good effort, but it failed —Auckland, 3; Maoris, 0. Maoris Gain the Lead. The Auckland forwards bustled the Maori backs, giving the latter no chances to open out. Then Barclay burst through into Auckland territory, and Reid had to kick out to save. Matene had a shot from 25yds. out, but tho ball twisted in flight. Batty was off side a moment later and Matene had another attempt from almost under the posts. This time he succeeded, making the scores 3 all. • The Maoris quickly drew ahead. Then Lucas had a shot from an easy position, his failure being greeted with a burst of laughter. ~ Auckland attacked with vigour.
