A WORLD-FAMOUS SOPRANO* A notable musical event will be th# appearance at the Town Sail on Satur* day, Monday, "Wednesday and Thursday, July 24, 26, 28 and 29, of the great singer Toti Dal Monte, who will give local music-lovers an opportunity to endorse the opinion of some of the bestknown critics who are unanimous in proclaiming the brilliant young Italian artist the musical phenomenon of our generation. He triumph won by Dal Monto on her first appearance in America, which was made at the Chicago Hippodrome, was sensational. The vast audience went righo out of bounds to show their appro-! ciation of th 3 singer who had been the means of making the Australian Me'ha opera seasons the most successful in the h'story of the Australian stage. On the morning following her triumph in Chicago a leading critic wrote:— "Despite memories of Melba, Tetrazzini and Galli-Curci, 1 recalled no 'Mad Scene' like Dal Monte's. She neither sought to divert attention by getting insane, nor endeavoured to dazzle vocally, but her contrasts of timing and phrasing and her control of voice were superb." Chicago Dal Monte proceeded to New York, where her success was even greater and the Times critic wrote:—"Dal Monte gave the utmost musical substance to Donizetti's facile music, making the unfortunate Lucia a credible and intensely dramatic figure. Dal Monte is a great actress. She is a sincere interpreter, and a real musician—a woman who has carefully and thoughtfully worked out her interpretative equipment." In London Dal Monte created a positive sensation, critics being almost unanimous in declaring her to be one of tho best singers of the day." In addition to being one of the greatest singers of the present generation Dal Monte is the possiessor of a magnetic personality, which has endeared her to playgoers and music-lovers the world over. For her New Zealand tour Dal Monte will be supported by Augusto Reuf, the celebrated young Italian baritone, Wiiiiam James, the brilliant Australian pianist, and Stanley Barnes, the famous flautist. Associated with the great singer are Augusto Beuf, a noted baritone, William Jammes, Australian pianist, and Stanley Baines, a brilliant young flautist- , The box plans for the four concerts will open on Wednesday morning next, July 21.
