MRS. CATHERINE GERM ANN. A very old colonist, Mrs, Catherine Germann, died at her residence,, 22. A, Colling wood Street, Ponsonby, on Saturday evening. Mrs. Gcrmann was in her 80 th year,- and had spent 60 years in New Zealand. Mrs. Gormann came to the Dominion with her father, the late Mr, William Scott, who was formerly a member of the Canadian House of Commons. < After a short time spent in Auckland, they went ■to Te Awarputu, taking ;, a >week' to ,do the journey. He was later manager of the. Kamo Colliery Company for eight years. He was also, chairman of the Kamo Town Board. In 1894 he went >to Mangawhare, and subsequently started in business for himsfelf J ift DargaviHe. About two years ago he retired owing to ill-health. Mr. Day always took a keen interest in local body affairs. He was elected the first Mayor of Dargayille in 1908, and was the senior justice'of the peace of the district.
