ONE TREE HILL LOAN.

Sir,—Replying to "Ratepayers" letter of Saturday wherein he says his correspondence has forced the hoard to give Particulars about concreting the Great outh Road and that the said board had altered tho width. This is absolutely contrary to facts. Tho board has not done this; the road will be, 18ft. oil the way from Green Park Road to St. Annes Bridge, falling in line with tho concreting done by the other local bodies. From tho Harp of Erin, where the whole formation of tho road and paths have to be al- \ tered and regraded with cuttings and fillings, there must,, of course, bo a larger outlay than on the other strip which is comparatively level. " Ratepayer " again takes E, E. Service to task when ha mentions the slab put down by the Mount Wellington Road Board and condemns tho concreting slab in Market Road. For tho benefit of " Ratepayer " I beg to inform him that when a party of. visiting engineers were being driven round onr city, they were loud in their praise of tho strip in Market Road. It is a pity "Ratepayer's is hiding under a norn-ue-plume. The board is doing its host for all tlio ratepayers and i 3 quite satisfied that in Mr. Dawson, their engineer, they have a gentleman who is thoroughly competent and studies the interqst of the district as a whole. Tho two portions from Heald Road to the Harp of Erin and again from the Campbells Statue to Lewin Road on the Manukau Road wore done under Mr. Dawson's supervision and tho ratepayers, when they vote for this loan next Wednesday, can depend on tho work being done equally as well as the two sections already completed. The beard is quite satisfied that numbers of contractors will compete and there is no danger of us accepting any tenders if thoir prices are unduly high. 'Hen»y K. Clayton. Member of One Tree Hill Board,
