SCENE AT FOOTBALL.

SUSPENSION OF A MATCH.

DEMONSTRATION BY CROWD. [by telegraph.—press association ] DUNEDIN. Monday. An Association football match on Saturday between Otago High School Old Boys and Maori Hill took a serious turn shortly before-the close of the game. The Maori Hill goalie was hurt in stopping a shot at goal, receiving severe injury to the nose, necessitating his retirement from the game. Another player went into goal, but this fact, was not notified to the referee and when the player handled the ball for a clearance he was penalised. This led to a demonstration by spectators and also some of the Maori Hill players. The referee was struck, but he could not say whether by a spectator or a player, but he was certainly jostled by a player. The referee blew his whistle and ordered the player, off, but the latter refused to obey. The Maori Hill team then commenced to leave the ground and the referee blew his .whistle calling the game off. ! The matter came up for discussion at ; to-night's meeting of the Otago Football Association, when the business , was dealt with in committee. On resuming in open meeting it was announced that Martin, the playei who jostled the referee, had •been suspended for the remainder of the season. The Maori Hill Club is to be; written to expressing strong disapproval; of . the conduct of its players and the spectators, and the club is to be notified that any repetition of such happening will result in the club's disqualification.
