TECHNICAL SCHOOLS.
CONCLUSION OF CONFERENCE GREATER GRANTS DESIRED. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] WELLINGTON. Friday. The conference of the Technical High Shool Teachers' Association has con-, eluded. The following remits were adopted : ■ That salaries for Division 11. be put on a higher basis.* That the department be asked to allow a" part-time teacher of swimming to be appointed where staffing has not been exceeded 'That there be but one division in the grading list. That teachers be permitted to include years spent as probationers and. years spent in training colleges for purposes of the Superannuation Fund, and that they bo permitted to contribute arrears of payment with respect to those years. That two pass degrees count as equivalent to a master's degree for the purpose of grading marks, as they do in tho secondary school grading scheme. That the present policy of the Education Department in refusing reasonable grants for equipment is seriously retarding the development of those aspects of technical education from which the Dominion receives most benefit; and that the association make this a plank in the platform, and malie strong representations to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Education. That in each centre there should be one controlling authority for junior technical schools and tiro Technical College. The following officers for the, year wore elected President, Mr. G. ,T. Park (principal Auckland Technical College) ; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. 11. Howell (principal Wellington Technical College) and McFadyn (Duneding Technical College) ; secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. Jones (Auckland); Executive Committee, Miss M. Wilson and Messrs. T. B. Bowling (Christchurch), L. J. Wild (Foilding), W. H. Dixon (Napier), and W. E. Barley (Auckland).
