LIGHT FOR HENDERSON.
ELECTRICITY SWITCHED ON. SCENE OF TRANSFORMATION. GLEN EDEN AREA INCLUDED. The electric light, was switched on at ITendersou for tho first time on Thursday evening. The effect, was a complete transformation of the streets, which hitherto have been unlighted at night, thero being no gas supply in the district. The greatest effect, however, was at the railway station, tho wonted gloom being replaced by a brilliantly lit platform. The immediate effect of the turning-on of the current for light and power has been an eager demand to be connected forthwith. One resident was so enamoured of the improvement that he wanted the current without further parley, inquiring from the "engineer of tho Waiteinala Power Board if he could have his house lit up the next evening. "Are you wired up ?" asked that official.
No, he had quite overlooked that ailimportant preliminary, but he lost no time in putting matters in train for the work to be put in hand. It is understood that the lights on the main road are to bo kept going all night.
Officials of the Power Board were engaged yesterday in making the necessary adjustments for the livening of the wires in tho Glen Eden Town District, and the power was turned on last evening. The districts of New Lynn, Glen Eden and Henderson are being supplied much sooner than the remaining areas of the Waiternata power district. This has been made possible by the Auckland .Power Board granting a supply in bulk' to the Waiternata Board for this section. The Helensvillo and North Shore districts must await the extension of the Government transmission lines from Penrose to Henderson and thence to Takapuna. On the completion of these and two substations a supply of hydro-electric current will be taken from tho Ilorahora system.
