UNJUSTIFIABLE OPTIMIST.
OFFENCES BY A BANKRUPT. SIX MONTHS' IMPRISONMENT. A sentence of six months' imprisonment with hard labour was imposed by Mr. Justice Herdman in the Supreme Court yesterday, on Leslie John Mullaney, convicted of four breaches of the Bankruptcy Act.
Mr. Davis said Mullaney had been a victim of unjustifiable optimism. Ho had started in business with borrowed capital and had allowed matters to drift, hoping they would right themselves. Prisoner was a married man with two children and was in poor health.
His Honor said the case was a bad one. It was perfectly plain that Mullaney had deceived the man who had stood by him, while he had obtained credit by dishonestly stating his position.
