BUSINESS MEN MEET.
MANUKAU DISTRICT MATTERS BETTER POSTAL' FACILITIES. A meeting of the Onehunga-Manukau Chamber of Commerce was held last evening. the president, Mr. H. J. Da vies, presiding. The Postmaster-General notified that arrangements had been made for the clearance of seven street receivers at Onehunga on Sunday nights, so as to connect with the mails leaving Auckland early' on Monday mornings. The secretary reported that the business people had very heartily supported the recent carnival, and after paying all accounts there was a balance of nearly £4O iii hand: An appeal was received from the Sports Protection League asking for support for the proposal to introduce summer time. Support was accorded, with three dissentients. It was decided that the annual meeting in July should be preceded by a dinner. With regard to another Manukau district court at the Winter Exhibition this year, it was decided, in view of the short time to prepare a court, and the unfavourable conditions under which the court had to be conducted last year, not to enter this winter. The chamber,will ask the Minister of Health to meet the wishes of ratepayers by holding an independent public inquiry into the Auckland Hospital expenditure during the last five years.
