In the Supreme Court to-day. before Mr. Justice Adams, eight members of the Timaru Borough Council asked for a ■»rrit of mandamus to compel the Mayor of Timaru to submit to the Borough Council four motions in respect of the appointment of a blacksmith, which motions he had ruled out- of order. After lengthy legal argument His Honor raised a mandamus in respect- of one motion, which stipulated that the proceedings instituted in the .Magistrate's Court against Robert Welsh, formerly blacksmith in the council's employ, for possession of a dwelling house, the property of the council, and recovery /of rent be discontinued. His Honor stated that the council had a right to have such a motion submitted for its decision. Costs £lO 10s and disbursements were allowed against the Mayor.
