LOCAL VERSUS ENGLISH.
LONDON PAPER'S COMMENT.

The Morning Post remarks that Britain has a special interest in the appointment tif Governors of tho Australian States. Australian agitators who arc in favour of local nominees overlook tho fact that huge loans »ro floated in London on advantageous terms through the 'lrustee Act, and that renewals are never questioned. Whereas foreign lenders might easily refuse to renew loans except on onerous terms, English lenders are happy to lend at a comparatively lo\v rate to a British Dominion where the King is represented by an English Governor. The paper says it doubts whether tho same confidence would exist if local men wero appointed Governors. Australia lias supremo confidence in herself and in her superiority. This is a healthy spirit, but it leads to complications if it is overassorted. The Morning Post adds that it is noteworthy that the Australian Labour Party has never used the referendum to test tho question of Governors,
