Although works by a number of distinguished artists were put up for auction at the final sale of Lord Leverhulme's collection in New York, no largo and several very small bids were made. Tho highest price was again paid by Governor Fuller, of Massachusetts, who bought Martin Slice's picture " The Anucsley Children" for 8500dol. A portrait of Sir Brooke Boothby by Racburn fetched 6000d01., and Joshua Reynold's famous " Venus and Cupid" was knocked down for 5250d01. Rossetti's " The Sea Spell," depicting a beautiful svreti playing a harp, fetched 4250d01., Troyon's " Summer Storm" 3600d01. and two fine contemporary portraits of Queen ' Elizabeth, by Federigo Zuccaro, which were unfortunately presented very late in the evening, sold for 800dol. and lOOOdol. a piece. Joshua Reynold's full length portraits of King George 111. and his consort, Queen Charlotte, which by a sport of destiny wore included in this collection and thrown to the mercy of the American public, were knocked down for the amazingly low figure of 700dol, each (£140). Tiie sales amounted to 110.745d0i. making a grand total of 347,190d0L for the wholo collection of 296 pictures.
