JEWELLERY OF THE HOUSE.
Beautiful glass is the jewellery of the house, and it should be as carefully chosen and treasured as the contents of milady's jt v.yl ra f. Ruby, amber, sapphire and cut crystal are all expressed into graceful shapes by the modern glass-maker to give chrtiacter dnd charm to our dining tables, or mantelpieces, and our dressing tables. The revived vogue of coloured glass is but another sign that we are gradually recapturing the exquisiteness of the eighteenth century, both in dress and decoration. For white wine, me the long-stemmed amber goblets, and for clarets and Buagundie3 are deep redtoned glasses which have pure gold in their composition to give that clear, rich colour. When not in use their coloured light-reflecting facets are decorative adjuncts to the sideboard or the glass cabi- ' net, and when a dinner party is given they increase the allure ot the beverage they bold and at once stamp the hostess as a woman of taste and discernment. For the dining-table or mantelpiece are graceful, clear, white," branched candle--1 sticks, delicately engraved. Fitted with coloured candles which repeat the colourBote of the room, they are ornament i enough for the most fastidious mantelpiece, and would act as a warning to those 1 offenders who regard the mantelpiece as a dumping gaound for souvenirs, ash-trays and invitations which require an answer. Tho port dolphin in glass is a novel centrepiece.
