PICTURE POSTERS

Sir, —An anonymous correspondent in your issue of April 1, calls attention to alleged offensive picture posters at Three Lamps and Upper Queen Street. The only objection he taked to either poster is the figure of Eve. The director of the picture regarded the traditional mother of the human race apparently as possessing sturdy physique. " Not a prude " is offended evidently because she was not a 1926 shingled silhouette. lam desirous of avoiding offence to anyone—your first 0i April correspondent not excepted. God, I believe, made Eve without clothes probably considering them to the pure of heart unnecessary. Despite this and I hope it will not be regarded as sacreligious, I have on the posters to which your correspondent takes exception painted around Eve 1926 fashions. I hope, tnereby, I •will not deprive " Not a prude " during his holiday leisure from a and envious contemplation of Eve the " full fed Juno." Mind you I do not regard " Not a prude " either as a desirable or a capable censor. Men of his type would very shortly if any regard were paid to them close every art gallery in the country and probably insist that those frequent early Maori navigators discovering New Zealand should show the Maoris clothed in dress suits instead of their scanty native attire. In closing I would say both the posters referred to are excellent examples of the lithographers art and except by a crank would be appreciated as such. B. Atkinson-
