"Komola" To Be Released Here. Metro-Goldwvn, sinco tho short term of their existence in this country, have released what'is probably th greatest drama ever offered to the picture-going public. This production is "Tho White Sister;" but now comes another production, " Romola." It is a film version of the famous novel by Georgo Eliot, which tells of the exciting life of the Florentines in the days of Savonarola. It was directed by Henry King, who was responsible for Miss Gish's previous offering, "Tho White Sister." Notes and Comments. Harold Lloyd will be seen in Auckland shortly in his latest and most amusing film, "Hot Water." Alico Terjy and Lewis Stone, who have not played together since they scored their triumph in " Scarainoucho," aro united as the royal couple in " Confessions of a Queen," Victor Seastrom's picture. " Helen's Babies" tells the story of a " wine" bachelor, who wrote articles on how to bring up babies, and then fell down miserably when he found himself up against tho real thing. Edward Everett Norton and Baby Peggy head a good caste. Jobyna Ralston, who makes her third appearance as Harold Lloyd's leading lady in " Hot Water," (the famous comedian's latest comedy vehicle), is rapidly establishing herself as one of tho screen s greatest prospects. Ono of the expressed conditions of her contract with Lloyd is that she is not to bob her hair. Ono of tho most clever bits of double exposure over used in a motion picturo was shot in making a lovely life size portrait of Miss Jacqueline Logan, in her latest attraction. It was in " Peacock Feathers," produced by Universal Pictures. Miss Logan appears in the scene as both the model and the portrait. After remaining in Los Angeles for some weeks, Paulino Frederick left that city on January 16, going to New York, whore she goes to make " Tho Nest" for Commonwealth productions. From private sources it is understood that Miss Frederick is in receipt of several wonderful offers to appear on tho English stacre, but pictures pay such big money tnat superlative praise. Dorothy Gish is feminine lead. A spectacular production entitled " The Creation," or " After Six Days," will be presented in Auckland, shortly, by the Australasian Releasing Corporation. The picture shows upon the screen tho Creation and tho fall of man, the tragedy of Cain and Abel, the mighty project of the Ark, tho cataclysm of tho Flood, the famed tower of Babel, and the awe-inspiring destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah by fire and brimstone. Lois Moran, tho now star in "Stella Dallas," knew, as a inert child, that she wanted to be an actress. At the age if 14 she entered tho Paris Opera ballet to learn dancing and pantomime. She is now 16, and has made two motion pictures in France, made her debut on the stage, and given a performance in "Stella Dallas" that is reminiscent of the best work done by Mary Pickford. Some of the most ingenious sets ever designed foi a motion picture have been constructed a£ the Paramount Long Island studio for Gloria Swanson's coming production, "The Untamed Lady." The most thrilling scenes in the picture are laid on a yacht during a storm. The :haracters in the story aro photographed m the deck, on the bridge, in one of the •ooms and in the stokehold. To give the proper illusion of a yacht in a storm all ;hese sets are built on cradles so that, by ,he use of levers, the pitching and rolling )f the vessel are actually shown. Announcement comes from the Charles Chaplin studio that he is getting ready to ' nake a circus picture as his next offering, fhe picture will be entitled " The Circus," ' ind it is said that the Chaplin Studios at 1 lollywood now closely resemble tho pernanent headquarters of a tent show. The nterior stage has been transformed into a j :ircus gymnasium, where Chaphn and his :o-workers daily go through a' routine of rick stunts. The story for the picture s woven about a series of ludicrous situitions. Built for laughter, it is Chaplin's ntention to turn out a picture that will 1 atisfy the most exacting critic, as well is the entire movie public. Since his return to America Reg. L. ? Snowy) Baker has established an Inter- 1 lational Film Agency in Los Angeles. In E i letter received by an Australian theatri- c :al journal Mr Baker says: "At present * am assisting in getting a suitable Aus ralian story for Torn Mix. If tho iiglH 1 dea can be secured, t7ie Famous Fox * tctor will be seen as an Australian in an Australian background. If you hear of ■ny of your authors desirous of selling heir stories to producers of Hollywood, 'ou might mention that our organisation iffers facilities |for placing material beore the right peoplo. The Los Angeles a Uhletic Club will find me." v In "The Gold Rush " Chaplin paid to fl ieorgia Halo, his pretty, new leading 11 idy, the greatest tribute in sub-titles that * ny leading lady has yet received. Appre- n iating her allure and the proud lift of her ead, each of her sub-titles tossed on the ilver sheet was a large blooming rose a r ith the name simply engraved, Ceoria." It became known recently that f haplin, showing Georgia Halo true con- * deration, had offered to release her from s er contract with him, provided she re- ■ r iived a worth-while offer, as he makes P sry few pictures, and this hinders her v iportunities. Immediately there were n rong bids from a number of big pro- h icers. Paramount was successful in v staining her services, offering an excel- 1< nt arrangement, and Chaplin cancelled n ir contract with him, as he had prom- ii ed. ii
