HOW A SULTAN FOUND AN HONEST MAN.
A sultan once wanted to find an honest man to collect the taxes in his kingdom, and so ho advertised the post, inviting all applicants to call at his palace. Before they were admitted into his presence, his "wise man" undertook to pick out an honest man from amongst them, if the sultan would leavo matters to him. When all the applicants were gathered together, in the great hall-room. the sultan, acting on the advico given him by his "wise, man," said to them: "Before I decide which one of you I shall appoint, I wish to sco you all dance." To his astonishment, they all refused to do this, except one, and the "wise man" then pointed to him, saying: "Sire, there stands our honest man. In tho hall I had sacks of money placed, and the reason why all the others have refused to dance is because they have helped themselves to tho gold and they fear tho coins would jingle in their pockets if they danced." This was found to bo the truth, and so tho only honest man amongst them all was given tho post by tho sultan.
