The King has approved the award to Sir Edge worth David. professor of Rpologv, Sydney University, of the patron's medal of Hip Royal GoAgraphical Foe i e t v. This is in recognition of Professor 1 );ivid's work as leader of the expedition whirl, made the ascent of Mount Erebus, in the Antarctic, and of his discovery of the. South Magnetic Pole. Sir Edgeworth David led an expedition to the lillicft Islands in 1897 and was scientific officer with the Shackleton Antarctic expedition. 1907-9. He also led the party which reached the South Magnetic Pole hi .January. 190/. I'roin lfnfj to 1919 he was geologist to the lirit.ish armies on the Western front. He has heen professor of geology at S\dney t'niversitv since 1891.
