OFFENSIVE PICTURE POSTERS.
gj r j seem to recollect that at a recent meeting of the Auckland City Council the subject oi indecent J'iciu.o posters was discussed and too town eieiK was appointed as censor of these piocious productions. It was an eusj Wii} of shelving responsibility, and an unfair one, as i do not suppose Mr. Brigham has time to give the job the attention it deserves. Recognising that lie has other pre-occupations citizens should, 1 think, help him with his censorship by notifying what they consider flagrant breaches of it. it is "in this spirit that 1 would draw Mr. Brigham's attention to the posters advertising a picture which commences showing at an Auckland theatre next week, lie will find one specimen in Upper Queen Street and another at Three Lamps. Presumably Evo and some very gay satellites are represented but it is not their nudity to which offence is taken. The representation of the nude cau bo beautiful and artistic and. when so treated, is inoffensive. But the treatment in both these cases—different posters j s gross and offensive in the highest, degree. The representation is not of some graceful Venus but of a full-fed Juno and the result is unpleasant. Moreovor, that these posters should flaunt from the roadside at the most sacred season of the Christian year is added indignity, and especially as the picture is said to bo based on the story of the Creation. I would suggest that it is time a vigilance committee was formed in Auckland which could advise Mr. Brigham of posters considered to be offensive. It would then be for him to exerciso his judgment as censor. The Council of Christian Congregations seems tho proper body to take the matter up and have it piaced in a more satisfactory posi Licit Nqt-AJPeudb.
