BRITISH INDUSTRIES FAIR.
GOOD BUSINESS REPORTED. [jr.on our own correspondent. ] LONDON. Feb. 24. "Tho best fuir of the series'' is the general consensus of opinion of both tho buyers and the exhibitors alike at the White City, where during the past week a steady stream of home and overseas buyers have been congregated. The London section of the fair has been visited by more than twice as many home buyers and nearly double the number of overseas buyers as attended tho previous London Fair. In tho amount of business actually done and in the number of trade buyers there has been a steady increase. Many very large ordors have been placed in all the sections. Orders from all parts of the world have been reaped by manufacturers at tho Birmingham section, where there are ten miles of stands and not a foot of space vacant. In the engineering trade good orders have been placed, particularly for oil engines and moderate sized steel tools. For the first tirno there is an electrical section and moderate sized electric plants have sold well. In the wireless section much business has been done, and here German buyers have been giving orders. Among Empire buyers the first place is taken by Australia, which has placed large orders for hollowware and lirass and steel water and steam fittings. India and South Africa have been Rood customers. Much business has also been done with Spain. Scandinavia and Denmark. The stands in tho Birmingham section bear witness to two important truths: (1) That. British manufacturers retain to tho full their power to turn out articles of the highest grade of craftsmanship; (2) that when they take up mass production on American lines, if not on tho American scale, their products are unequalled. The waiting list of firms wishing to exhibit, but crowded out, is so long that tho authorities of Ihe fair met to consult with Mr. Neville Chamberlain on the advisability of greatly enlarging the building in preparation for a bigger success than ever next year.
