SOUND FINANCIAL POSITION. SICK AND FUNERAL BENEFITS. The sound financial position attained sinco the consolidation of tho various funds by tho Auckland district of tho Ancient Order of Foresters, is the subject of a congratulatory memorandum just prepared by tho executive for presentation' to the members of this friendly society. Tho quinquennial valuation recently received disclosed a surplus of assets o\ei liabilities of £11,252. Vt ith the consent of the registrar of friendly societies, £7500 of the surplus had been applied for tho purpose of relieving old members from the payment of their contributions, and £IOOO to wipe off liabilities incurred during the war period in pajing members' contributions while on active service. The proposal to transfer £IOOO from tho surplus to the district benevolent fund was not entertained by the registrar. The assets of the district amounted to £86,156. This is made up of cash investments of £2689, mortgages £42,683, and land and buildings £40,784 (Foresters' buildings at the corner of Albert and Wellesley Streets, £23,000; halls, £14,677, and house property. £3107). During tho past year disbursements for sickness benefits totalled £2715, or £195 less than the previous year; while an aggregate of £SOO was paid in respect of funeral allowances, being £9O less than in 1924. For maternity benefits, covering 160 births, £960 was paid, though thTs represented a decrease of £4O in comparison with the preceding twelve months. Contributions to the sick and funeral fund amounted to £4256 (£l9O moro than the year before), the credit balance now being £68,969, an increase for the twelve months of £5382. The net interest earned averaged 53 per cent.
